Our book club picked a 600 page doorstop and only two people finished it, do we DNF or push through?
So our little book club in Sacramento voted on this 600 page historical novel back in March, and last Tuesday we sat down to talk about it and it was a disaster. Only two out of the eight of us finished the thing, and one of those two admitted she skimmed the last 200 pages. The rest of us showed up with nothing, so we spent 90 minutes talking about the snacks and someone's divorce instead of the book. Now we're split down the middle. Half the group says we should just pick a shorter book next time and let the doorstop go, no shame in it. The other half says we owe it to the process to finish what we started, even if it takes two extra months, because bailing sets a bad habit. I'm honestly torn because I'm the one who nominated it in the first place and I feel like a jerk either way. What does your club do when most people don't finish? Do you vote to drop it or do you drag everyone through it?
