Our book club meeting in the library cafe went off the rails over the ending of 'Klara and the Sun'

We were supposed to talk about the themes, but Sarah from my group got super heated and said the ending was a 'cop-out.' It got so loud the librarian had to ask us to quiet down twice. I tried to steer it back by asking if anyone thought Klara's choice was sad, but the whole vibe was ruined. Has anyone else had a meeting totally derailed by one person's strong take?

Our book club almost had a fistfight over whether Frodo should have kept the ring. It was just some guys yelling about power and corruption for an hour. We never even got to talk about the elves. Honestly, it's just a story. People act like the author personally betrayed them. Next month we're reading a cookbook.

The best stories make us fight over them like that.
