I used to argue about book endings at club meetings like it was a sport
After a heated debate over The Night Circus nearly got a friend to quit, I switched to just asking people what stuck with them instead of trying to prove my point. Changed my approach 3 months ago, and now our meetings actually end with people laughing instead of storming off. Anyone else have to tone down their debating style to keep the group together?

Yeah I had to learn that lesson the hard way too. Used to come in with my arguments all lined up like I was getting paid for it, but after a couple meetings where people stopped talking to each other after, I realized it was killing the whole point of being there. What worked for me was setting a rule for myself: I can disagree, but I gotta lead with "thats interesting, I saw it differently because..." instead of jumping straight to "actually you're wrong." Been doing that for about six months now and it's night and day how people actually want to hear my take instead of just waiting for me to shut up.
