Found my book club's hidden gem author at a library sale last month
I grabbed a dusty paperback by Tessa Hadley for 50 cents at the library used book sale. Everyone in my group loved it and now we're planning a whole meeting around her short stories. Anybody else find a great author through a random cheap pickup?

Oh man, that's such a great feeling when a random grab turns into something special! I had the same thing happen with a beat-up copy of "The Sportswriter" by Richard Ford that I pulled from a free bin outside a thrift store. Ended up reading everything else he wrote after that one, so I totally get your excitement about the Tessa Hadley find.

Sixty bucks for a paperback that's still in print? That's not a steal, that's the store laughing all the way to the bank. I could grab a brand new copy of a Tessa Hadley novel for less than that on Amazon with free shipping. Free bin finds are a total different story, but paying that much for a used book doesn't sound like a win to me.

Grab a used copy of a Tessa Hadley for like ten bucks on AbeBooks, that sixty dollar paperback better be signed or something. Michaela16 knows the drill with the Richard Ford find, that's the real magic right there.
