Found a wild stat about banned books in our club's latest pick

Our group is reading 'The Handmaid's Tale' and I looked up some background. I found out from the American Library Association that it's been challenged or banned in over 50 school districts just in the past two years. I had no idea it was still that actively targeted. It really changes how I see the discussion we're having about its themes. Has your club ever picked a book knowing it was controversial like that?

Ever read a book just because it was banned?

Barbarahill, my entire high school reading list was basically the banned books section. They tried to stop us from reading "Catcher in the Rye" so of course we all passed around a greasy copy. Worked out great, now I'm a well-adjusted adult who talks to ducks.

Fifty school districts in just two years is a stunning number for a book that's been out since the 80s. It makes me wonder what specific scenes or lines are getting flagged now compared to when it was first published. Does your club plan to look at the exact reasons it's been challenged recently, or just focus on the book's overall themes?
