Debate: skimming audiobooks vs. reading the actual pages

I used to speed up audiobooks to 2x and skip chapters to finish faster, but last month I hit play on a slow burner novel and caught details I'd normally miss. Now I'm wondering if skimming is really saving time or just ruining the story. Which side do you fall on for dense literary fiction?

Wait, you actually catch more on a slow burner?

Ha, yeah, I know it sounds backwards. Figured it wouldn't make a difference either until I tried it and realized I wasn't burning half my bait off before the fish even showed up. Took some patience though, not gonna lie. First couple hours felt like a waste of time until the fish finally started hitting around sundown. Ended up hauling in a solid stringer while the guys with the roaring propane burners were just sitting there watching their pots bubble.
