Caught my book club friend mispronouncing 'Gatsby' for 6 months
She kept saying 'Gats-bee' like it was a bug, until I finally pulled up the audiobook sample and her face went red. Has anyone else had a group member totally butcher a title or author name and just go with it for way too long?

Why do people just guess at words instead of looking them up real quick?

Why do people act like looking something up is gonna take forever when it's literally two seconds on your phone? @the_jason nailed it... it's like they'd rather just wing it and embarrass themselves than admit they don't know. I had a coworker call Donna Tartt "Donna Tart" for months and I never corrected her because it got funnier each time. Eventually the bookstore clerk heard her say it and just stared... that was the breaking point. It's weird how we let stuff slide until someone else has to witness it live.
