A member in my group called my discussion questions 'too safe' and it actually helped

They pointed out I was only asking about plot points, so I started adding one 'what if' question per meeting. Last month for 'Klara and the Sun', I asked 'What if Klara had chosen a different kid?' and the debate went for 45 minutes. What's a good risky question you've used?

What a great way to push the group deeper. I did something similar with "The Road." I asked if the man was a good father for keeping his son alive in that world. People got really heated, defending both sides. It changed how we saw the whole book.

That question made me rethink my whole take on the book.

Those "what if" questions really open things up, right? Terry_martinez is spot on about how they can change your whole view.
