Vent: Brand new welding hood gave out on day 3 of a big job

I picked up a new auto-darkening hood last week for a boiler repair at a chemical plant. Day 3 of a 10 day shutdown and the lens stops responding mid-weld. I'm talking full white flash right in my face. Had to grab my old passive hood from the truck and finish the shift squinting. Anyone else have a new piece of gear fail that fast? What brand do you trust for tough jobs?

Dude, same thing happened with my Miller. Makes you wonder what you even paid for.

Stop and think about how many of these things get returned and resold as "refurbished" before they even hit the floor. That Miller you bought might have been someone else's headache that got cleaned up and put back in a box. They count on you not checking the serial number or the warranty registration online. I bet half the people complaining about early failures could trace it back to a unit that had already been through three owners on paper. Makes you wonder if that "new" price tag is really just paying for a rental that got sold to you twice.
