Thinking back to my first year on the job with old-school boilers

We had to rely on manual gauges and a lot of guesswork for pressure checks. Today's digital monitors make it safer, but you learned a real feel for the metal back then.

But all that guesswork was a real safety problem. Digital monitors stop accidents before they happen, and knowing the exact number is way better than a gut feeling.

Remember burning my fingers on those manual release valves, lol.

The Greene Street plant still had those glass tube gauges in '99... you'd squint at them and hope your eyes weren't playing tricks. Digital reads everything for you now, which is great for keeping all your skin... unlike @angela984's fingers. We called that 'getting your stamp' from the release valve. Sure, it was a dumb way to learn, but you never forgot the feel of a boiler about to pop after that.
