Question about setting up a boiler for a high pressure steam system
I was working on a 500 psi system at a plant in Toledo last week and kept getting low pressure alarms. My foreman came over and pointed out I had the main feed valve only half open the whole time. I was so focused on the gauge calibration I missed the simple check. Has anyone else had a similar oversight with a high pressure setup?

lane.drew is spot on about that being a heart attack moment. A half open valve on a system that big isn't just a simple mistake, it's putting crazy strain on everything upstream. You're basically choking it, and something else is gonna give way before that pressure alarm even trips. That kind of oversight is how you get those emergency whistles hill.hugo heard blasting.

Man, lane.drew is right about that alarm sticking with you. I was hauling a load of industrial tubing past that Toledo plant last Tuesday and heard a steam whistle so loud it cut through my cab radio. Made me jump and spill my coffee all over the dash. Sounded like a train was right next to me.

Wait, 500 psi? That's a whole different world from what I usually see. Forgetting the feed valve on something that beefy is a heart attack waiting to happen. Bet you heard that alarm in your sleep.
