PSA: My new $200 magnetic level tried to marry a pressure vessel
Was setting up for a weld on a big steam drum. The thing jumped out of my hand and stuck to the side with a loud clang. Foreman thought I dropped a wrench. Anyone else have tools get too friendly with the job?

That magnetic level story is a classic shop lesson. I've seen guys spend ten minutes prying a good square off a beam because the magnets were too strong. The real problem is when that strong pull throws off your reading before it even sticks. On heavy plate, a weak magnet is useless, but one that's too strong becomes its own kind of tool problem. You end up fighting the tool instead of it helping you.

Wait it actually tried to stick to the pressure vessel itself? That's wild lol. I get what noahclark is saying about fighting the tool, but a magnet that strong sounds like a safety hazard. You could seriously pinch a finger trying to get that thing off. Makes me wonder if the level is even still straight after a hit like that.
