PSA: A 30 year hand told me to pressurize the boiler with a leaf blower, and it actually worked
Had a small firetube job in Gary last Tuesday and could not get the tubes to seal for a hydro test, water was weeping out of about 6 rolled joints. The old hand on site told me to cap the stack and stick a leaf blower in the sight glass port to push a little positive pressure while I rolled them again. Sounded like a joke but we tried it and the weeping stopped almost right away. Turns out the tiny bit of back pressure helps the roller seat things without pulling air in. Anybody else heard of this or is my guy just messing with me?
Man that old timer probably saved your whole day, rolled joints on a firetube can be a nightmare when they keep weeping. We've all been there fighting a leak that just won't quit, so glad it worked out for you.
