My 80-foot boom lift blanked out mid-lift over a fuel tank in Gary
Last month I was swapping out a manway on a tank farm when the whole hydraulic system just died, stick stuck about 40 feet up with the basket loaded with studs. The manual said check the pilot relief, so I pulled it and found a chunk of Teflon tape jammed in the seat, some guy before me over-taped a fitting and left the scrap behind. I cleaned it out, reset the pressure to 2,400 psi, and got the basket down in about 20 minutes without calling a crane. Everyone said I should have just cut the boom and replaced the cylinder, but that would have cost the client $8,000 for nothing. Anybody else find a simple fix that everyone else wanted to throw money at?

Did you torque that fitting proper after the tape cleanup, or just wing it?
