Had a close call with a pressure gauge on a job in Tulsa last month

I was checking a boiler and the gauge read fine, but my partner noticed the needle was stuck. It was giving a false safe reading. We swapped it out and found the old one was totally gummed up inside. Anyone else run into a faulty gauge that looked okay at a glance?

Always give the needle a light tap to check it's moving freely.

But what if the tap itself knocks it loose?

Tap does way more than check movement. Can actually seat the stylus deeper into the groove if it's riding high. Fixes tracking issues nobody talks about.
