Appreciation post: the old welder who corrected my bevel angle
Back in March on a tank job outside Tulsa, this veteran boilermaker watched me set up a 37.5 degree bevel and stopped me, said we needed 30 for the filler rod we were running. I argued for a minute then tried his way and the weld laid in twice as smooth. Anyone else get a save like that from an old timer that stuck with them?
Man that's a good feeling when someone who's been doing it forty years just quietly saves your whole day. Had an old hand do something like that for me on pipe roots years back and I still run it his way. Those guys don't waste words but when they talk you better listen.
