A chat with an old timer at the supply yard about weld specs

I was picking up some 3/8 plate in Toledo last week and got talking to a retired guy, Frank, who used to run a crew. He said, 'We used to run 7018 rods on everything thick, no questions asked. Now you kids have a spec sheet for every joint.' It made me think about how much more we plan now versus just knowing the metal. I spent two hours last Tuesday just on weld procedure for a single pressure vessel flange. Does anyone else feel like the paperwork side has doubled in the last ten years?

Started keeping a master spec binder, cuts my time in half.

Nice, but what about digital updates?

Frank's right about less planning back then, but @ellis.victor's binder idea shows good paperwork just takes a system.
