8 hours on a weld test that should've taken 2, all because of a ground clamp
Got called to a job site in Gary last Tuesday to run a root pass on a hydro tank. Hooked up my ground clamp to the bench like always, but the arc kept wandering and spitting. Burned through three rods before I checked the cable, the lug on the clamp had cracked inside the rubber boot, so it was only biting on the paint. Swapped in a spare clamp from my truck and it ran clean as silk. Anyone else ever chase a bad ground for half a shift when the fix is a 15 minute change out?
