The old roll and move dice games are gone from my group's table

Back in 2014, my group in Philly would play Risk and Monopoly all night, simple dice and cards. Now every session is worker placement or engine builders with 40 page rulebooks. I miss the nights where we could teach a new guy in 5 minutes, anyone else feel like the hobby moved past the casual stuff?

Simple dice games still exist, they're just buried under the shelves of heavier stuff. My group still busts out King of Tokyo or Betrayal when we want zero brain power, and those sell great at every game store I've been to. The hobby didn't leave you behind, the market just got bigger and more varied. A 40 page rulebook can be a blast when you're in the mood to think, and honestly those 5 minute games got boring after 5 years of the same moves. Teaching a new guy takes longer now, but we play 3 hours instead of rolling dice for 4 with a eliminated guy stuck on his phone. The casual nights are still there, you just gotta schedule them like everything else.
