The game library at my local rec center caught me off guard
I stopped by the Maplewood Community Center last Tuesday to drop off my son for swim practice and wandered into their lobby. They had this beat-up shelf by the vending machines with maybe 40 board games on it, just loose boxes with tape holding some corners together. I figured it would be all Monopoly and Checkers, but there was a full copy of Wingspan with all the bird cards still in the plastic sleeves, plus a dusty Pandemic Legacy that had a sticky note saying 'season 1 complete, still fun.' The kicker was seeing three older guys at a folding table playing a heavily worn copy of Agricola, no phones out, just arguing about sheep placement. I sat there for 20 minutes waiting and ended up joining their next round. It made me wonder how many community centers have hidden game nooks like that, do any of you have spots near you where the games are actually good and not just the usual stuff?
