Pro tip: Don't try to sort your game collection by theme

I decided to organize my shelves by game theme instead of box size, thinking it would look neat. It took me a full weekend, about 12 hours total, to pull everything down and group them. I had to keep checking rulebooks to remember if 'Terraforming Mars' was more 'sci-fi' or 'economic'. The whole system fell apart when I realized 'Dune: Imperium' could fit in three different piles. Has anyone found a sorting method that actually works for more than a week?

And that's EXACTLY what happened with my friend Dave and his vintage train set collection. He spent THREE whole weekends sorting through engine types and era codes instead of actually running the trains. I mean, who even does that? But then he showed me this color coded chart he made and I was like... okay that's actually kind of cool. Now I sort my movie collection by the color of the spine, not even the genre. It looks messy but it makes me happy.
