Overheard a couple arguing about board game rules at a coffee shop

I was at The Daily Grind last Tuesday and the pair next to me were having a full-on, quiet but intense debate about the 'correct' way to score the end of a game of Carcassonne. One person kept saying, "But the rulebook from 2012 says farms are scored differently!" and the other was holding up their phone with a PDF. It went on for like 15 minutes. It just made me think about how deep we can get into the weeds on stuff that's supposed to be fun. Has anyone else had a rules disagreement that almost derailed a game night?

Oh man, that's the worst. My friend group nearly came to blows over a tiebreaker in Azul last month. We had to put the game away and just order pizza instead. Sometimes the fun just gets lost in the fine print.

Lost in the fine print" is my usual strategy for losing.
