Our game group's 'no phones' rule changed everything in two months

We started a strict rule where everyone puts their phone in a basket at the start of game night. Before that, half the table was scrolling or texting between turns, and it took us three hours to finish a game of Terraforming Mars. Now, we get through it in under two, and the talk is all about the game. The vibe is just totally different, people are way more into it. Did your group ever try something like this?

Oh man, "screaming from that basket" is the perfect way to put it. My phone has taken so many hits that a case is basically just a suggestion at this point. I'm pretty sure the last drop cracked my screen protector and my spirit at the same time.
