I was the worst kind of board game host and didn't even know it

My friend finally said, 'Abby, you explaining every rule for 45 minutes is not fun, it's a lecture.' I was so focused on getting it 'right' I forgot people just want to play. Anyone else been called out for over-teaching a game?

Feel your pain, I once turned a game of Uno into a full seminar.

My Monopoly games always turn into lectures on property law.

Wait, you actually get real property law lectures? I used to think that was just an exaggeration people made to sound smart on the internet. But now I'm reconsidering my whole view on board game arguments. My cousin once turned a round of Risk into a full on history lesson about Napoleon's strategies and I was just sitting there like "dude, please just roll the dice." It really made me realize that some people just can't separate a simple game from their personal expertise. So yeah, I totally get how Monopoly could turn into law school real quick.
