Guy at a game night kept 'correcting' the rules on every single game we played

Met this dude at a meetup in St. Paul last month, he'd flip through the rulebook every time someone took a turn. It killed the vibe so bad three people left after Settlers of Catan. How do you handle someone like that without starting a fight?

Would wait until he flipped to a specific page and then just loudly asked "You memorized the whole rulebook or what?" just to call him out in front of everyone. Three people leaving tells you everything you need to know. The guy was more worried about being right than anyone having fun which is the whole point of game night. Next time tell the organizer to have a word with him or just straight up say "Dude we get it you can read, let us play." People like that need to be checked hard or they'll keep ruining everything.

A strict rules reader can actually save the group from arguments later on, especially if someone starts making up their own rules to win. If he's that dedicated to looking things up, at least you know everything is fair and nobody is getting cheated. Sometimes the vibe might suffer but I've seen way more game nights fall apart because people couldn't agree on what the actual rule was.
