DAE feel like the rise of 'optimal play' discussions has turned friendly board game nights into silent strategy lectures?

I showed up to my usual game night expecting banter and beer, but instead got a PowerPoint presentation on efficiency curves.

Seriously? Someone actually brought a PowerPoint presentation on efficiency curves to a board game night? What's next, handed-out agendas and a quarterly review of your tile placement? How do you even salvage the fun after a lecture like that?

Last Thanksgiving, my uncle brought a laminated reference sheet for Ticket to Ride and quizzed us before we could start. He had color-coded routes and probability tables for train cards, which completely killed the mood. We spent twenty minutes listening to his 'briefing' while the turkey got cold, lol. Eventually, we just ignored his rules and played chaotically, which actually made it more fun. It's like some people forget that games are supposed to be about hanging out, not optimizing every move. That PowerPoint guy probably needs a reminder that board game night isn't a corporate retreat.

But honestly, if someone puts that much effort into a game, it means they're really into it and want everyone to have a good time. A quick briefing can help new players understand strategies faster, so the game runs smoother and everyone can compete better. Maybe the mood was killed, but at least he tried to make it more than just random chaos, lol.
