Caught a guy at Gamehole Con explaining why he only plays 2 player games

I was walking through the open gaming area at Gamehole Con in Madison last October, and this older guy was setting up a small table with just two chairs. I asked him what he was playing, and he said he hasn't played a game with more than 2 people in like 8 years. He told me it cuts down on quarterbacking and the downtime between turns. It made me think about all the times I've sat through 15 minute turns in 5 player games of Scythe. Has anyone else dropped down to mostly 2 player games and regretted it or loved it?

Is quarterbacking really that big of a deal in most games you play?

Admit it - I've probably been that guy without realizing it. Got an entire group of friends staring at me while I'm explaining a flank route for 5 minutes. Then we all die anyway.
