Grabbed a cheap plano box from Walmart instead, still holding up fine.

My buddy tried the same thing with one of those fancy boutique boxes and it fell apart in three months. He went back to a plain old Plano and it's been sitting in his truck bed for two years now, no issues. The clear plastic one he got from the hardware store is actually tougher than the expensive brand name one. Sometimes the simple stuff really does hold up better.
