A tournament player told me I was rolling too aggressively and it saved my game nights

Depends on the game. In a game like Warhammer or 40K where dice control movement and shooting, rolling hard can physically knock models around or mess up the measured distances. That's not about etiquette, that's about respecting the board state. Some folks spend hours setting up terrain. If you're sending dice flying into their lines, you're basically telling them their work doesn't matter. A gentler roll keeps the game clean and everyone focused on the actual playing, not fishing dice off the floor.

Rolling too aggressive is just part of the fun, who cares that much about tournament etiquette?
