A guy at my FLGS in Dayton told me Catan was originally a game about building a whole island, not just trading sheep
So I was at my local game store on Saturday killing time before a D&D session, and the owner pointed at a beat up copy of Catan on the shelf and said the first version was more about settling the whole island than just the trading part. He pulled up an old designer interview on his phone and there it was, Klaus Teuber saying the early drafts had way more map to build on before they trimmed it down. I stood there for like 10 minutes just staring at the board thinking about how many hours I've put into a game that started almost completely different. Did anyone else know this or am I the last one to hear about it?
