A guy at a con in Chicago said board games are just for kids now

I was at a tabletop event last year and this guy saw my copy of Twilight Imperium. He said, 'That's a lot of plastic for a kid's toy.' I told him our game group plays it over two full Saturdays, with a 20 page rulebook. He just shrugged and said video games are for real adults. It stuck with me because he wasn't trying to be mean, he just didn't get it at all. Do you ever run into people who think our hobby is just simple stuff for children?

My mom used to say the same stuff about my tattoos. For years she called them a mistake. Then last summer she saw my full sleeve and just said it looked like art. That one quiet comment from her meant more than anything a stranger could say. It totally changed how I see those old arguments. Sometimes family just needs a long time to catch up to who you are.
