A friend told me my game nights were too competitive and it made me think

We were playing a round of 'Scythe' and I was focused on winning, like always. After the game, a friend pulled me aside and said, 'You treat every game like a tournament final. It's making people not want to play with you.' That hit me hard. I realized I was always explaining rules in a strict way and pointing out every small mistake others made. I changed my approach last month. Now I pick simpler games for mixed groups, like 'Codenames', and I focus on making sure everyone gets the rules, not just following them perfectly. I even let a few rule slides go if it keeps the game fun. Has anyone else had to dial back their competitive side to keep a game group together?

Did you guys ever get that feeling where you realize your own ego was the problem all along? I had a similar moment last month when I finally noticed I was always cutting people off to share my own story... kind of embarrassing to look back on. It's weird how you don't really see it until someone points it out or something clicks.

Wow, that's a tough but really mature realization you had.
