I finally tried box modeling a mug in Blender and got a lumpy potato, now I'm torn on whether to start over or fix it
Last week I sat down at my kitchen table in Dayton and tried to model a simple coffee mug from a cube, and after about 2 hours of extruding and loop cuts it came out looking like a lumpy potato with a handle stuck on sideways. Side one says just delete it and start fresh, because rebuilding from scratch drills the basics into your hands and you learn where you went wrong the first time. Side two says keep it and fix the messy parts, since real skills come from cleaning up bad geometry and you won't always get to start over on a paid job. I saved my potato mug as mug_v1.blend and I keep staring at it, because when I started over on a donut tutorial last month the second try was way smoother, but I also feel like I'm quitting on the fix it path too fast. My sister walked past and asked if it was a paperweight, so that tells you where I'm at. For those of you who have been at this a few months, do you scrap a bad first model or push through and save the ugly version? And does anyone have a fix for a handle that merges into the body all weird?
