Warning: My forge's heat-up time went from 45 minutes to under 20 after I switched to a ceramic fiber blanket lining from the old firebrick.
I swapped it out last Tuesday and the difference in fuel use and shop time is huge, anyone else tried this and have tips on keeping the blanket from getting beat up?

I was a total firebrick loyalist for years, thought the blanket stuff was a fad. Your numbers are hard to argue with though, that's a crazy fast heat-up. I coat my blanket with a rigidizer and then a thin layer of Satanite to protect it, seems to hold up.

Firebrick loyalist" is a whole mood, @taragibson, I get it! But man, calling it a fad feels like a stretch when the heat-up time difference is that huge. The coating process you do sounds like a lot of extra steps, honestly. Is all that work really worth it compared to just stacking bricks? I've seen blankets last for ages without getting that fancy.

Just a small thing, but Satanite is the rigidizer. It's not a separate step after one. So it's a bit less work than it sounds like.
