My first try at a Damascus billet split right down the middle during the initial weld.

I was in my home forge, trying to stack 1084 and 15N20 for a simple pattern. The steel looked clean, but I must have missed some scale because when I pulled it from the fire after the first weld pass, it had a huge crack. I let it cool, ground out the bad spot, and re-stacked the pieces with fresh flux. What's your go-to trick for making sure the steel is perfectly clean before a weld? I'm still learning.

Damascus has a real commitment to the divorce process.

Gotta disagree with @nathan_webb here. From what I've seen, they keep finding reasons to stall or walk things back. It looks more like a delay tactic than any real commitment.
