I finally compared my coal forge to a gas forge side by side, and wow
I run a small shop outside Boise and last month a buddy let me borrow his gas forge for a week. I did the same knife blank in both, same steel, same hammer work, just different heat sources. The coal forge gave me that nice, even soak for drawing out, but the gas forge was way more consistent when I needed to weld a fold. Honestly, the gas forge won for speed and less scale, but I still love the coal for the feel of the fire. Anyone else switch back and forth and find one just clicks for certain jobs?
