Hot take: shimming my anvil with a strip of leather killed the ring and my ears thank me
Spent two weeks chasing a buzzing sound from my 150 lb anvil in the garage and tried silicone, rubber mat, and even a sand bucket before a guy at the Eugene hammer-in told me to slip a scrap of 8oz leather under the base, and the ring dropped by half in about five minutes.
