Hot take: My neighborhood's new forge smoke rules are okay with me. Most smiths here are mad, but it made me upgrade my setup.

Might be mixing up forge work with welding or grinding. Forges usually don't make much smoke, that's more of a welding fume thing. Anyway, smart move upgrading your gear either way.

What about coal forges, though?

Actually the new rules are a pain for small shops. Lucas_webb is right about clean forges, but startup and shutdown still make smoke. My buddy had to add a whole vent system he can't afford.
