Hot take: blade show demos are overrated for learning heat treat

Watched a 45 minute demo at the Atlanta show last spring and realized I learned more from messing up a 1095 blade in my own shop. The demo guys have all their temps dialed in and never show you the failures. Has anyone else hit their best results just from trial and error at home?

Watching someone nail it on the first try teaches you nothing. Your own screwups are the real lesson.
