Finally figured out why my forge welds kept failing after 6 months of trying
Turns out I was heating the billet way too fast and trapping scale between the layers. Took me 20 tries and a conversation with a guy at the local hammer-in to spot what I was doing wrong. Has anyone else had a simple rookie mistake take forever to catch?

Man that scale issue is a killer... I spent over a year fighting cold shuts before someone told me I was not soaking the billet long enough. Felt like a complete idiot when it finally clicked. Heat management is one of those things nobody explains right the first time.

Did you have to adjust your welding technique when the billet was properly soaked, or did the heat management fix it all on its own?
