DAE have their 3 inch hardy hole crack on a cold chisel cut in the garage last Saturday?
Heard a sharp ping over the anvil and found a hairline running out from the corner, so I stopped and drilled a small relief hole at the end of it. Any of you ever saved an anvil that way, or is it a lost cause?
Drilling a hole at the crack tip does zero to stop it from spreading, the crack just keeps going past it half the time. Hairline like that on a hardy hole usually means the whole corner's about to go, so babying it now is just wasting time. Losing the corner bites, but that anvil's on borrowed time and you're better off planning for a replacement than trying to save it.
