Coal vs. propane: which one actually belongs in a beginner's shop?
A guy in my local club near Dayton showed me his coal forge last month and swore I'd never go back to gas, but my propane setup fires up in 10 minutes flat with no ash to clean. So which is it: do you learn the craft better on coal, or does propane let you spend more time at the anvil? Curious what the old-timers here say.
