Watched a finch hit my sliding door 6 times in one day and changed my mind on decals

I was dead set against those window decals. Thought they looked tacky and blocked my view. Last Tuesday at my place near the park I got proven wrong. A little finch kept flying into the same spot on my sliding glass door over and over. By the sixth hit I felt like an idiot for being stubborn about looks. I stuck two of those UV reflective decals on there that afternoon and it hasn't happened since. Anybody else have to get smacked with reality before you finally tried the simple fix?

My neighbor took three dents in his mailbox from the garbage truck before he put up a reflector pole. I swear people like us have to learn things the HARD way. It's like how I refused to use those little sink strainers for years until I had to fish a whole fork out of the garbage disposal. We get so stuck on how things LOOK or our pride about being right that we ignore the obvious fix right in front of us. The decals probably saved that bird's life and now your view is barely different. Sometimes the cheapest ugliest solution is the smartest one.

@jade_hernandez I gotta disagree with you here. Those decals are still ugly and I refuse to put them on my windows. I live near a field too and birds fly into my glass all the time. They just shake it off and fly away. A finch hitting your door six times in one day sounds like that bird had some kind of brain problem, not a window problem. My view matters more to me than coddling every bird that can't figure out glass. Plus I've seen those decals peel and fade after one summer and then you're stuck with a sticky mess.
