Tried fishing line on my porch window and 3 sparrows just sat on it instead of hitting the glass
I strung 20 lb mono line across my big porch window in a grid about 4 inches apart, mostly because the decals I bought were ugly and I wanted something cheaper. Two weeks in, zero strikes on that window, which was my usual problem spot in the fall. But the weird part is I watched three sparrows land right on the line and use it like a perch, which I did not plan for at all. So now I have birds hanging out on my window instead of crashing into it, and I cannot tell if that is a win or just a new problem. Has anyone else had birds treat their deterrent like furniture, and did it ever lead to more strikes later?

My buddy Dave did something like this at his place in Tulsa, hung some kind of line across his sliding door after a robin kept whacking it every spring. Same deal, the birds learned to just sit on the line and chill. He figured it was fine until about a month later when one of them got spooked by a hawk and flew straight into the glass trying to get away. So the line stopped the slow flyers but not the panic flights. He ended up adding some thin vertical strips too so it looked more like a barrier from every angle, and that seemed to do the trick. Point is, the perch thing itself probably is not the problem, it is what happens when something scares them off that perch.
