Talking to my neighbor totally changed how I see my backyard
He came over yesterday and pointed at my big sliding glass door. He said, 'You know, that thing is a death trap for birds. They see the trees behind it and think it's a clear path.' I always thought the stickers I put up were enough, but he showed me his setup. He has these little white dots spaced every two inches across his whole window, and he hasn't had a single strike in three years. It made me realize my old method was basically useless. Has anyone else switched from a few decals to full coverage and seen a big drop in hits?

Check the UV patterns on your stickers. Some decals look clear to us but birds see them as solid black because they see ultraviolet light. I switched to ones with special UV-reflective coating and the difference was huge, even with my old spacing.

A wildlife rehab center near me said they treat hundreds of window strike birds each year. They told me the stickers only work if they're placed super close together, like your neighbor's dots. It seems like most people just don't know the spacing needs to be that tight.

Actually, the rehab center's advice about spacing being the only thing that matters is a bit off. The pattern needs to be on the outside of the glass, and the shape of the markers matters too. Big, solid shapes like dots work way better than thin, see-through stickers, even with good spacing.
