Question about those cheap window decals from the hardware store
I dropped about $15 on a pack of those little hawk silhouette stickers, thinking it was an easy fix. They did nothing, had two robins hit the same pane in a single morning (which was pretty rough to see). What actually works for a big picture window without making it look like a mess?
Ugh, those decals are a total scam. I had the same thing happen. The real fix is using a soap bar. Just draw a grid of lines on the outside of the glass, maybe six inch squares. It looks like frost from a distance and birds see the lines as a solid thing they can't fly through. It washes right off with water later. You can also try those transparent UV stickers, but the soap trick is free and it actually works.
@the_jason is spot on with the soap trick. I had a sliding glass door that birds kept smacking into, and after losing a few to window strikes I tried that method. Drew six inch squares with a bar of ivory soap, took maybe five minutes. The birds stopped hitting the glass completely, and when I wanted to clean it off for summer, a hose was all I needed. Best part is you can reapply it anytime without buying anything special.
