I read somewhere that most hits happen because birds see the glass as open sky, so I taped 4 vertical strips about 4 inches apart on my back slider before migration started. Zero strikes from March through May, which shocked me because a cardinal had smacked that same window twice the year before. But when I peeled the tape off in June, a robin hit the glass within 2 days, right in the spot that used to be covered. So the tape wasn't training them or anything, it was just breaking up the reflection the whole time it was up. Now I'm trying to figure out something that looks less ugly but works the same way. Has anyone used the dot decals or the cord things, and do they actually hold up through a full season?
