Pro tip: the tape strips from the bird rescue lady in Boise lasted 2 winters on my slider
I called the wildlife rehab hotline after a wren hit my patio door in November, and the woman who picked up walked me through spacing 2 inch tape lines so they're 4 inches apart, which she said is the max gap a cardinal won't try to fly through. Has anyone else tried the outdoor tape over the stick-on dots, and did yours survive a full winter of rain?
Doubt the tape thing lasts like that for most people. Two winters in Boise is one thing, but Boise gets way less rain than say Seattle or Portland, so a dry cold winter is not the same test. I tried the outdoor tape on my sliding door and it peeled up by January after a few good storms, water got under the edge and it was done. The dots at least stay stuck longer even if birds still hit sometimes. And honestly a 4 inch gap? A cardinal might not squeeze through but smaller birds like finches and sparrows totally will, so that spacing only works for certain birds.
