My neighbor swears by those decal dots on the glass, and my patio door has stayed clean for 2 months

My neighbor Rhonda kept telling me to skip the curtains and just put those little decal dots on my sliding patio door, but I figured a bird would see straight through them. Put 6 dots on each pane back in April and have not heard a single thump since, even with the cardinals going nuts at the feeder. Does spacing or the size of the dots change how well they work, or is any pattern fine as long as it breaks up the glass?
