Just had a cardinal hit my new sunroom window in Atlanta

I was cleaning the glass yesterday when a bright red male cardinal flew straight into it from the oak tree, making a loud thump. I found him dazed on the deck and put him in a shoebox in a quiet spot for about 20 minutes until he flew off. What's the best way to mark a large, clear window like that to stop it from happening again?

Hot take: Window clings work. Those little static decals you can get for cheap are the easiest fix. Birds see them as a solid thing to avoid. I put up some hawk silhouette ones on my back door after a similar incident and it actually helped. Just space them out a bit so it breaks up the reflection of the sky and trees. Poor little guy, glad he flew off okay.

Not sure I totally agree with you there, @ward.piper. I've had birds still smack into the glass even with decals spaced out, like they just don't see them as a barrier. Maybe it depends on the window or the bird, but I've had better luck with those cheap UV tape strips instead.

I hear you on the decals, but I've had a totally different experience. I tried those hawk clings and the birds just ignored them after a week. They still hit the glass right between the stickers. Maybe it works for some windows, but on my big sliding door it was useless. I had to put up a whole screen to finally stop the thuds. It's frustrating when a cheap fix doesn't actually fix the problem.
